15 VII 2004 In Southern Wielkopolska for the first time, members of PwG OTOP were ringing and taking photos of little owls (Athene noctua). In Raszkow (district Ostrow Wielkopolski), two little owls were caught, ringed and photographed – an adult female and a fledgling. The breeding site is detached house and the nest was found under the eaves of a roof, but the birds often stay in an attic, where some pellets collect were. Residents know owls very well and like their obvious loud behaviour. As they said to us, owls sometimes attack cats in neighbourhood – probably in this way the parents want to protect their young from those predators. In the years 2002, 2003 and 2005 in this site there were no nestlings. In 2004 probably only one owlet hatched. Both of the birds (adult and fledgling) are availauble to see in the Gallery in pictures taken by Marek Radziszewski.
